NOS-M

The Joint Committee of the Nordic Medical Research Councils (NOS-M) is a collaborating body for the Nordic research councils that finance medical research.

NOS-M aims to coordinate and promote medical research in the Nordic countries, to monitor its progress, and to facilitate information exchange among the countries. The Committee also aims to promote and initiate concrete, collaborative Nordic projects in medical research, e.g. by regularly funding various types of workshops or research seminars that give PhD students opportunity to discuss their research with senior researchers in a particular field.

NOS-M initiated a joint Nordic project, "Nordic Centre of Excellence Programme in Molecular Medicine 2004-2009", which it has co-financed with the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Nordic Academy for Advanced Study.

The chair and secretariat rotate among the Nordic member countries at three-year intervals; Denmark is chairing NOS-M from 2007.

Swedish representatives to NOS-M are Håkan Billig, Secretary General of the Scientific Council for Medicine, and Professor Ulf Lerner, member of the Scientific Council for Medicine.
