Department of Research Policy

The analyses, evaluations and investigations that the Department of Research Policy produces forms the basis for the decisions which are made by the Swedish Research Council. Many investigations and evaluations are performed upon commission from the government, others are initiated by the Research Council or the Department of Research Policy itself. The department also manages steering and standardisation issues for the development of the Swedish digital ecosystem for research information and analysis (e.g. data definitions and standards). The department consists of two units:

The Policy Advice Unit conducts analysis regarding research conditions and terms. The unit is also responsible for matters relating to the coordination of crossdisciplinary international projects (such as Horizon 2020, Science Europe, JPI, ERA-net and bilateral agreements), as well as policy issues relating to gender equality and open access to scientific information.

The Analysis and Evaluation Unit conducts analysis relating to the Swedish research system and evaluations of areas such as targeted research initiatives. The unit also compiles statistics on scientific output and citations, and is responsible for the development of methods in evaluation, analysis and bibliometrics.
