Scientific Council for Natural and Engineering Sciences
The Scientific Council for Natural and Engineering Sciences supports the best research as regards quality according to national priorities and the best researchers within the natural and engineering sciences.
The Scientific Council also participates in international collaboration organisations and furthermore works on monitoring, evaluation and strategic work.
The Scientific Council for Natural and Engineering Sciences consists of nine members. All members are active researchers with great academic competence and are chosen by the research community. The term of office is three years with a possibility of extension for a further three years.
The Scientific Council has 19 evaluation panels with a total of around 250 researchers as members who assess and prioritise research applications. Observers from the Council are included and supervise evaluation work. It is the Scientific Council which appoints members of the evaluation panels.
In addition, there are working groups for various purposes, and the Scientific Council regularly brings in specialist advisers and experts (national and international) for various tasks, for example evaluations of research supported by the Council.
The Swedish Research Council has a Secretary General within Natural and Engineering Sciences with high academic competence. The Secretary General is a member of the Research Council´s management group and is employed at the Research Council for a period of three years. The name of the Secretary General within Natural and Engineering Sciences is Sven Stafström, from July 1, 2010.
