Lund Declaration

The conference "New Worlds New Solutions" in Lund saw 350 researchers, research funding agencies, industrialists and politicians from all over Europe gathered together to discuss how European research should be developed. The participants agreed on a document — "The Lund Declaration" which was submitted to Sweden´s Higher Education and Research Minister.

The declaration establishes that the EU´s research policy should abandon the present thematic and bureaucratic structure and focus instead on mustering its resources to solve some of the major challenges facing the world,  for example the climate threat, water shortages, demography and pandemics.

“It has been a very good conference with exciting discussions. The Lund Declaration is a powerful plea for increased resources at the European level, for better collaboration between different levels and for sharpened innovation systems. I look forward to seeing how our ideas are taken forward," says conference Chairman, Pär Omling, Director-General of the Swedish Research Council.
