SEK 300 million for new research focus on children's and young people's mental health

Research concerning children's and young people's mental health needs to be boosted. Increased knowledge within the field will promote development and understanding in order to facilitate a positive trend. The Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research (FAS), the Swedish Research Council Formas, the Swedish Research Council and VINNOVA are making a joint focus starting in 2012.
Swedish research concerning children's and young people's mental health is extensive and is carried on within many different disciplines. There are however major knowledge gaps in regard to research fields that can provide the basis for assessing changes over time and thereby the capacity to comprehend what promotes or hinders sound mental development.

FAS, Formas, the Swedish Research Council and VINNOVA have decided to organise a joint public announcement for research funding and will allocate a total of SEK 50 million per year for a period of six years, starting in 2012, in order to support cross-disciplinary projects within the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, medicine and health, educational science and technology. Projects can concern development elements, interpretation models, intervention, prevention, treatment and innovation. The relation to mental health is also relevant in the research that will be funded. Where appropriate the research should also be cross-disciplinary, that is to say take place in partnership between the research community and society.

The public announcement will open on 21 June 2011.
