Postdoc fellowship and grant awards 2011
Postdoctoral fellowships and grants for postdoctoral positions in Sweden have now been awarded. A total of 475 applications were submitted, 70 of which were granted. The aggregate amount of funding approved is more than SEK 77 million.
Higher approval rate for postdoctoral fellowships As in previous years, more postdoctoral fellowships were awarded than grants for postdoctoral positions in Sweden. Of 152 applications for postdoctoral fellowships for work at a foreign institution, 41 applications were granted, which yields an approval rate of 27 percent. Regarding grants for postdoctoral positions in Sweden, 29 of 323 applications were granted, which represents an approval rate of 9 percent.The highest approval rate for postdoctoral fellowships was found in medicine and health (36.4 percent) followed by natural and engineering sciences (25.4 percent). The rate was considerably lower in humanities and social sciences and in educational sciences (11.5 percent).
Even approval rate across subject areas
The approval rate for both grant forms lies in the range of 12.1 to 16.7 percent. Humanities and social sciences and educational sciences (HSU) have an approval rate of 12.1 percent, natural and engineering sciences (NT) lie at 14.9 percent, and medicine and health (MH) have an approval rate of 16.7 percent. Good balance in approval rate between genders In aggregate for both grant forms, women and men have roughly equal approval rates at just under 15 percent. At the subject area level the respective success of men and women varies between the two grant forms, but here, too, the differences are small.
