Globalization of Society
Funds totalling 15 million Swedish kronor (SEK) will be available in 2011. The duration of the projects may be up to 3 years.
Globalization affects the development of society at all levels. It leads to an ever-increasing interdependence of states and continents, affecting everything from politics, the economy, and cultural and social life, to technology, climatology, and aetiology.
The Swedish Research Council therefore welcomes research projects that approach globalisation from different perspectives, with the intent to study various types of interrelationships. One requirement is that the research must address changes — causes and consequences — that may be defined as societal in a broad sense. The Swedish Research Council particularly encourages collaboration among researchers from different academic disciplines.
The criteria for allocating funds are high scientific quality and high relevance to the advancement of knowledge about the globalization of society.
Grant applications addressing research on Globalization of Society must include Appendix a7, describing the project´s relevance to the field. Only those applications that include Appendix a7 will be considered for funding under this initiative. The Swedish Research Council´s regular evaluation panels will initially review the applications. An interdisciplinary panel will then assess selected applications from the standpoints of quality and relevance. The Board has empowered the Scientific Council for Humanities and Social Sciences to make the funding decisions.
Applications not granted funding under this special initiative, Globalization of Society, compete in the usual manner for Project Research Grants from the Swedish Research Council´s research appropriation.
