Postdoc decisions
Grants for postdoctoral fellowships and postdoctoral positions in Sweden were awarded in November, 2009. In total, 357 applications were submitted in medicine, the humanities and social sciences, the natural and engineering sciences, and the educational sciences. Of these, 53 were approved.
The approval rate was higher for postdoctoral fellowships than for postdoctoral positions in Sweden. Of the applications for postdoctoral fellowships, 28% were approved versus 8% of the applications for postdoctoral positions in Sweden.
Approval rate highest in medicine
Overall, most of the approved grant applications are in medicine. Although most of the applications for postdoctoral fellowships were submitted in the natural and engineering sciences, the approval rate for this type of grant was highest in medicine (54%).
The natural and engineering sciences also received the most applications for postdoctoral positions in Sweden. The approval rate for this type of grant was nearly the same in medicine and the natural and engineering sciences, while the humanities and social sciences had a somewhat lower rate.
Approval rate equal for women and men
Overall, the approval rates for women and men were equal.
USA most popular
As usual, the United States is the country where most applicants choose to spend their time as postdoctoral fellows. Regarding postdoctoral positions in Sweden, Stockholm University and Uppsala University share the top spot as the most popular host institution.
