Berzelii Centres

Four strong research environments in Stockholm, Uppsala and Umeå are the first Berzelii Centres. These will carry on excellent basic research and expand collaboration with trade and industry and with the public weal in order to make research useful in the long term through commercial application.

The Swedish Research Council and VINNOVA will finance each centre with up to SEK 100 m during a ten-year period. Co-finance means that each centre will receive a total budget of around SEK 270 m.

The Berzelii Centres are an investment in strong research environments orientated towards excellent basic research and which have a clear ambition to develop active collaboration with trade and industry and the public weal so as to make research useful through commercial application. Funding will continue for up to ten years.
