Uppsala University
The RNA field has undergone a revolution during recent years. Today, it is clear that RNA play more fundamental roles in living organisms than previously recognized. At Uppsala University, a unique constellation of internationally well-recognized RNA research groups has successfully pursued interdisciplinary research in two directions, RNA Biology/Chemistry.
The vision is to develop and expand the current RNA research at Uppsala into deep knowledge building in RNA biology/chemistry and exploit the information to constitute various strategies for RNA based therapeutics/biotechnology.
Three new strategic research fields:
1) infectious diseases and RNA
2) systems biology and RNA
3) chemical biology and RNA.
Plan:
1) organize a problem and interdisciplinary oriented research center, Uppsala RNA Research Center (URRC)
2) recruit young principal investigators representing the new strategic fields
3) establish a post-doctoral/PhD student interdisciplinary education program encompassing the interdependence of all three fields.
The education program will be tuned to these goals of excellence and linked to a "Linné Forskarskola" entitled Uppsala University Graduate School in RNA Research. The outlined strategy strengthens current RNA research and place Uppsala University in a good future position when successors of current professors and assocociate professors will be recruited.
