The Middle East in a Contemporary World

The research programme consists of four parts. In the first part, researchers will study the contemporary perceptions of Islam and Muslim culture. The second part will focus on matters concerning conflict and conflict resolution, environment, safety, and international law. The third part investigates emigration from the Middle East and mobility within that part of the world. The fourth part addresses the Middle East in relation to Sweden.

Uppsala Russian Research Centre, URRC

The Uppsala Centre for Russian Research presents a new environment for research concerning the post-Soviet sphere. Economic development, legal reforms, and market relations constitute one of the three main themes for the new centre. The second theme of the research programme will address questions such as: What social, cultural, gender, and ethnic identities affect development in the region? How is the population handling the transition to new systems? The third theme focuses on political relationships between Russia and the post-Soviet states.
