Here are subject areas supported by the Swedish Reserach Council.
Humanities and Social Sciences
Research in Humanities and Social Sciences is about the functioning of society and how cultural values are created and spread. The Research Council supports research throughout the area of Humanities and Social Sciences, including law, history and democracy.
Medicine
Medical research affords knowledge of how the human body works and how illnesses are prevented, arise and are treated. The Research Council supports everything from research at molecular and cellular level and research involving animal experimentation and patients to epidemiological studies of groups of people.
Natural and Engineering Sciences
Research on the Natural and Engineering Sciences provides knowledge of the physical world and the basis of human technological systems, such as those that permit industrial development. The Research Council supports research throughout the spectrum of basic research in these sciences, including such fields as biodiversity, chemistry, electronics, astronomy, biotechnology and mathematics.
Educational Sciences
Educational Sciences are about research on learning, knowledge formation, education and teaching. The Research Council supports research on such topics as the social, economic and political conditions of the education system, learning, knowledge accumulation and the use of knowledge, and also ways of enhancing diversity in education and teaching.
Artistic Research and Development
The point of departure for artistic research is found in the artistic process and works. Research, regardless of art form, is practice-based and includes intellectual reflection aimed at developing new knowledge. The results of artistic research are usually presented both as creations and in written form.
Research Infrastructure
Research Infrastructure includes, for example, research installations, facilities for database research or extensive computer networks used in Sweden or internationally by a number of research groups that are a precondition for high-quality research.
