Specific Government initiatives
Research into civil society
The initiative supports multidisciplinary basic research into civil society. The most recent call was in 2017. The research programme mainly covers support for research environments, project grants and grants for postdoctoral posts. The coordinator is Apostolis Papakostas at Södertörn University.
Research into racism
The first call was in 2016 and was conducted in consultation with the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare (Forte). The next call is planned for 2019. The initiative covers a total of 20 million SEK per year.
Research in the area of culture and cultural heritage
Within the initiative we have issued calls for grants in 2013 and 2016. The ongoing initiative covers 25 million SEK per year.
Research into the prerequisites for growth
The last call was in 2016. The initiative covers a total of 10 million SEK per year and ends in 2020, when the current project expires.
Own initiatives
Research into democracy
Our initiative for research into democracy is a continuation of a previous Government mandate for research into democracy and public administration, which ran between 2004 and 2018. The initiative was coordinated by Stefan Svallfors at the Institute for Futures Studies, and you can read about the mandate and the projects that were awarded grants on the website vrdemokrati.se.
The most recent call was in 2017, the next one is planned for 2020. The initiative covers 10 million SEK per year.
Comparative research
Our initiative for comparative research will contribute to develop elements of comparative research throughout the humanities and social sciences area, in order to explain the conditions, development and interactions of people, groups and society. The research shall in particular contribute to the development of theory and methodology within comparative research. Eleonor Kristoffersson at Örebro University coordinates the initiative and is responsible for arranging two seminars and one conference for researchers with funding from the initiative.
Research on the long-term provision of knowledge in society
Together with Formas (the Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning), Forte (the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare), and Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, we focus on research into the long-term provision of knowledge in society. The initiative covers 80 million SEK in total, and eight projects have so far been awarded grants.
