Biography
Katarina Bjelke Director General of the Swedish Research Council
Dr. Bjelke was appointed Director General of the Swedish Research Council in 2022.
She has a solid background in academia where she amongst other duties served as a University Director at Karolinska Institutet, as well as at Uppsala University. From 2008, she worked for seven years as Director of Research Policy for the Government, with main responsibility for the Swedish Government’s research policies, including the Swedish research bills, which is presented every fourth year. Simultaneously, she was responsible for a number of research funding bodies and the Swedish universities.
She is trained as a Doctor of Dental Surgery and holds a PhD in Neuroscience from Karolinska Institutet.
Dr. Bjelke also held positions such as Chair of the Audit Committee of the Nobel Foundation and the Swedish National Space Agency, and as an elected member of the boards of Young Academy of Sweden, the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions, the European Spallation Source, the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education, and several holding companies.

The Swedish Research Council’s logo is available in two versions in Swedish and English, and in black or white. Please use our primary logo in the first instance.

How to use the Swedish Research Council’s logotype
The logo may be used in contexts where the Swedish Research Council is the sender, a collaborator or a funding body. It may also be used by media in conjunction with news items where the Swedish Research Council is mentioned.
In the event the Swedish Research Council is the sole funding body, this shall always be stated in conjunction with the logo. Please use the text “With funding from” or corresponding wording clarifying that the Swedish Research Council is providing funding and is not the sender. See the examples below.

Guidelines for placement
- The logo shall always be mounted on a calm background to provide great contrast with the black or white symbol and text.
- The logo shall always have a minimum of 5 mm of clear space around it to make it visible and readable.
- The logo may not be cut down, coloured or changed in any way.
