The Swedish Research Barometer 2021

The Swedish Research Barometer provides an overall description of the state of Swedish research and development (R&D) in international comparison. The emphasis is on research conducted within the Swedish higher education sector.

The Swedish Research Barometer 2023 now published

An English version of the report will be published in the beginning of 2024.

Swedish resarch and development from three perspectives

  • Funding – how much money is spent on research and development?
  • Personnel – what is the composition of the research personnel?
  • Research results – how big an impact does the research have?

Statistics from several sources

The Swedish Research Barometer gathers together statistics from Statistics Sweden, the Swedish Higher Education Authority, OECD and the EU Commission (e-CORDA), and the publication database Web of Science. In this way, the report provides an overall description of the Swedish R&D system.

We publish the Research Barometer every second year

So far, we have produced the Swedish Research Barometer for the years 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2021. The next Research Barometer is planned for 2023.
