Report from the SIMSAM mid-term evaluation
In 2008, the Swedish Research Council announced a general grant and funds for a research school (both for five years) within the scope of the SIMSAM Initiative (SIMSAM = Swedish Initiative for research on Microdata in the Social And Medical sciences).
This initiative aimed to stimulate a new generation of researchers and research leaders in disciplines which could in the best way possible take advantage of data available in different Swedish registries. A panel consisting of internationally recognised experts in fields that fall under SIMSAM’s responsibility conducted a mid-term evaluation of SIMSAM in November 2011. The findings of the evaluation are presented in this report.

The Swedish Research Council is funding 15 centres of excellence as from 2024. The centres, which are being built up, shall carry out ground-breaking research and educational activities around a central theme.

As from 2022, all clinical studies funded by the Swedish Research Council shall be registered in a public database. A recent follow-up shows that the majority of the clinical studies awarded funding in 2022 have been registered.
