Evaluation of the strategic research area initiative 2010–2014

The Swedish Research Council, Formas, Vinnova and the Swedish Energy Agency have evaluated the Strategic Research Area initiative launched by the Swedish Government Bill on Research Policy in 2008. The Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare (Forte) actively participated in this evaluation as a collaboration partner.

The initiative includes 43 research environments in 20 specified strategic research areas. The evaluation was carried out on by an expert panel of six professors with vast experience of universityand research management, as well as research policy formation and evaluation. The expert panel has beenchaired by Tuula Teeri, President of Aalto University, Finland. 28 external reviewers have supportedthe panel with an initial assessment of the performances of each individual strategic research environment.

The evaluation report consists of the expert panel’s assessments and conclusions.
