The Swedish Research Barometer 2025

Swedish research in international comparison

The Swedish Research Barometer provides an overview of research and development (R&D) in Sweden, both in an international comparison and within the Swedish higher education sector.

The report is divided into three chapters:

  • Research funding
  • Research personnel
  • Scientific publication

Each chapter describes the Swedish R&D system from two perspectives: in comparison with other countries and with a focus on the higher education sector.

The Swedish Research Council publish the Swedish Research Barometer every two years. This is the sixth report.

Here you will find previous editions of the Research Barometer.

Supplement: Citation impact for the humanities

The 2025 Research Barometer does not contain citation statistics for the humanities. This is because citation levels in the field are too low to generate stable calculations of the standard metric ‘Share of highly cited publications’.

As a supplement to the 2025 Research Barometer we have produced an analysis that uses an alternative metric to show the citation impact for the humanities.
