Distinguished professor grant within medicine and health

The aim of the distinguished professor programme is to create conditions for the most prominent researchers to conduct long-term, ground-breaking research with great potential for achieving scientific breakthroughs. The grant shall also enable the establishment and build-up of a major research environment of the highest quality around a leading researcher.

Applicant: Individual researcher who completed a doctoral degree more than 12 years ago.

Participating researchers: No other researchers may be invited to join the application.

Grant period: 8 years

Grant amount: 4 000 000 SEK per year

Start of grant period: January 2024

Application period: 18 January 2023 (14.00/2 pm) – 21 February 2023 (14.00/2 pm)

Publication of grant award: No later than the end of November 2023

Please note:

  • You must justify in your research plan how your stated activity level (which must be a minimum of 50 per cent of a full-time equivalent) is suited to the implementation of the research project. We also ask you to describe the management of risks or obstacles to the implementation of the research plan.
  • As from 2022, there are guidelines for study registration and result reporting for the clinical studies funded by the Swedish Research Council. This means that information about the study shall be registered in a public study register, and that a summary of the results shall be published in the register.   • This year, the call also includes specific support for the area of psychiatry with focus on compulsory mental care and forensic psychiatry.
  • A grant may be earmarked for a researcher who is clinically active, that is, has a clinical position (employment within health and medical care) equivalent to at least 20 per cent of full time, in parallel with carrying out research activities.
