On 22 June, the Government decided that the Swedish Research Council shall no longer fund development research. The decision means that we will not be funding any new grants in development research in 2023, and that all received applications are dismissed.

Starting grant within development research

The purpose of the grant is to give junior researchers the opportunity to establish themselves as independent researchers in Sweden. The grant is also intended to promote the quality and renewal of Swedish research. Starting grants in development research are funded by the Government’s development aid funds, and the research shall be of particular relevance to the fight against poverty and for sustainable development in least developed countries.

Focus: Development research

Applicant: Individual researcher who completed a doctoral degree more than 2 years ago and up to 7 years ago.

Participating researchers: No participating researchers may be invited to join the application.

Grant period: 4 years

Grant amount: Minimum 400 000 SEK per year, maximum 1 200 000 SEK per year

Start of grant period: January 2024

Application period: 15 March 2023 (14.00/2 pm) – 18 April 2023 (14.00/2 pm)

Publication of grant award: No later than December 2023
