Project grant for research into democracy and societal resilience
The purpose of the project grant is to give researchers the freedom to formulate their own research concept, method and implementation, and to solve a specific research task within a limited period. This is a project grant with focus, aimed at supporting research into democracy and societal resilience.

Participating researchers: Up to 6 other researchers may be invited to join the application
Grant period: 1–4 years. If you apply for a fourth year, this must be specifically justified in the application.
Grant amount: Minimum 400 000 SEK per year, maximum 1 700 000 SEK per year
Start of grant period: January 2026
Application period: 23 April 2025 (14.00/2 pm) – 27 May 2025 (14.00/2 pm)
Publication of grant award: No later than the end of November 2025
Focus
The research projects shall contribute new knowledge of how democratic societies can be strengthened to address everything from local to global challenges in a changing world. We welcome applications from all fields of research, as well as cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approaches.
The urgent questions of the call relating to democracy and societal resilience can be looked at from a number of different perspectives, such as how institutional, economic, communicative, cultural, and other societal factors can contribute to the long-term sustainability of democracy, both in Eastern Europe and globally, as well as how democracy, the rule of law, and public administration can be maintained, developed, and reformed during periods of political instability; how educational systems and artistic practises can promote democracy and civic engagement, or how historical and cultural processes can influence the development of democracy.
