Sweden adopts national roadmap for ERA
The Swedish Government has adopted a national roadmap for the European Research Area (ERA). The Swedish Research Council will now update an earlier draft action plan for the agency.
The ERA was launched in 2000, and forms an internal market for knowledge and researchers in Europe. In 2015, the EU adopted a roadmap for research collaboration for the years 2015–2020. This was to be supplemented with national plans, and on 18 April the Swedish Government adopted a Swedish plan.
The roadmaps at both European and national level deal with the following areas:
- More efficient national research and innovation systems
- Addressing societal challenges jointly
- Optimising public investment in research infrastructure
- Open labour market for researchers
- Gender equality and gender equality integration in research and innovation
- Open science
- International collaboration
The Swedish Research Council has previously contributed documentation for the national roadmap, and has developed a draft action plan for the ERA within the agency. The Secretatiat for International Coordination is now responsible for updating this action plan.
The ERA is regularly evaluated, and the latest evaluation (Progress Report) was presented in 2018.
