Committee for Clinical Studies to be closed down

In autumn 2020, the Swedish Research Council reviewed its two committees within clinical research. The review resulted in a number of recommendations to the Government, including the closing down of the Committee for Clinical Studies, which has now been agreed to. The task of supporting and developing the preconditions for clinical studies in Sweden will remain with the Swedish Research Council.

In its report to the Government, the Swedish Research Council made proposals relating to the structure and function of the Committee for Clinical Studies and the Committee for Clinical Therapy Research, but also more general proposals aimed at further improving the preconditions for national coordination, thereby improving the quality of clinical studies in Sweden. The review, which was reported to the Government in October 2020, has now resulted in the closing down of the Committee for Clinical Studies, with a change in the Government’s Instruction to the Swedish Research Council.

The Swedish Research Council will retain the task of supporting and developing the preconditions for clinical studies in Sweden. We are also maintaining the current structure with operational grants and grants towards the work with national development initiatives to the nodes within Clinical Studies Sweden.
