Network grant for collaboration with USA in cancer research

The purpose of this network grant is to give researchers the opportunity to create or develop a network around cancer research for one year. Up to six other researchers may be invited to join the application, and at least one of them shall be active in USA.

Project grant for employment of postdocs for cross-sectoral collaboration in medicine and health

The grant is aimed at established researchers, and makes it possible to employ a postdoc conducting research both at a higher education institution and at an organisation or a company. The purpose is to support interaction between higher education institutions and the surrounding community, and to increase researcher mobility between different sectors. The research shall answer a question that is best studied in collaboration between a higher education institution and an external party. Read more about project grants for research collaboration

Project grant for research in cyber and information security

The grant aims to strengthen Swedish research in this field. A call for a similar project grant was last issued in 2023.

Network grant in educational sciences focusing on digitisation and STEM education

The purpose of this network grant is to support internationalisation and mobility through long-term collaborations between Swedish and US research teams. The research shall focus on digitisation and education in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

The grant shall provide opportunities to establish or further develop a network in a specific research area within STEM education. For example, it may be to investigate opportunities for writing joint applications and applying for international funding, in order to deepen international collaboration. Both senior and junior researchers from the research environments shall participate.

Research environment grant in educational sciences

The purpose of the grant is to strengthen national and international research environments, and to enable strategic initiatives of excellence. The grant shall promote collaboration between researchers working towards a joint research goal in the longer term, and contribute to career development.

The collaboration may be justified by research linked to a national or international infrastructure. It can also relate to a cross-disciplinary focus in educational sciences. The research team shall be well established in the international research community, and make significant contributions to national and international research.

The Swedish Research Council is responsible for six national research programmes. Every year, we issue different types of calls within the programmes. Next year, we are issuing calls within four of them.

Viruses and pandemics

We will be issuing four calls within the national research programme in viruses and pandemics:

Project grant for research into knowledge gaps in viruses and pandemics

The grant is aimed at accumulating knowledge about how to reduce the negative consequences for human life and health and for society, resulting from virus diseases and pandemics, and thereby prepare society ahead of future pandemics.

Starting grant in viruses and pandemics

The purpose of the starting grant is to give junior researchers the opportunity to establish themselves as independent researchers in Sweden in the area of viruses and pandemics.

Consolidation grant in viruses and pandemics

The purpose of this grant is to give the most prominent junior researchers the opportunity to consolidate their research and broaden their activities as independent researchers. Within the framework of the call, the Swedish Research Council wishes to support researchers who have a scientifically interesting research concept, and thereby move the frontiers of research forward, or fill in existing gaps in knowledge.

Network grant for collaboration in the area of viruses and pandemics

This network grant aims to support cross-disciplinary networks relating to virus-caused diseases, pandemic preparedness, infection spread, public health, and societal effects, or other networks within viruses and pandemics. The idea is that the grant shall be used to develop and coordinate a research question, share research data, or use infrastructure that is relevant to research in this area.

Criminality, segregation, the societal consequences of digitisation

In each of these national research programmes we will be issuing a call for project grants. For all of the calls, we welcome applications from all scientific fields, and also cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approaches. The research may cover both local and national circumstances, as well as international comparisons.

Project grant for research into criminality

Research within the programme shall contribute to creating knowledge-based and effective practices for counteracting and fighting criminality. The 2025 call will be funding applications in two areas: Gender equality and criminality, and preventive work to counteract criminality.

Project grant for research into segregation

The research programme shall contribute new knowledge about the significant socio-economic differences that exist, for example between different housing areas, city districts, and parts of the country in Sweden. This may relate to factors such as school results, level of education, use of language, occupation, income, health, life span, security, participation in democracy, and involvement in cultural life.

Project grant for research into the societal consequences of digitisation

The research programme shall contribute new knowledge about how digitisation impacts on and is impacted by social and cultural relationships, working life, education, organisations, markets, and the democratic system, including public administration.
