Pär Weihed Appointed Investigator for the Swedish Research Council’s E-Infrastructure Assignment

E-infrastructure for research is crucial for Sweden’s ability to be one of the world’s leading research and innovation countries and a top knowledge nation. The increasing needs for resources for storage, transfer, computation, and analysis of data encompass all research areas and disciplines.

Responsibility for e-infrastructure is currently divided among several organisations with different principals, leading to a lack of coordination and absence of a national strategic approach. Against this background, the Swedish Research Council has been mandated to provide proposals to the Government on how the work with e-infrastructure can be organised and coordinated. The assignment is to be finalised and reported to the Ministry of Education by 15 June 2025.

The Swedish Research Council has appointed Pär Weihed as the investigator for the assignment. Pär Weihed is the Pro-Vice-Chancellor at Luleå University of Technology and has experience working with the Universities’ Reference Group for Research Infrastructure (URFI). Charlotte Hall will be the investigation secretary, having participated in the work on the Research Funding Inquiry (Fofin).

The assignment includes engaging in dialogue with universities and colleges and gathering opinions from a large number of funding bodies, public agencies, organisations, and other stakeholders. An initial hearing is planned for January 2025.
