Forte and the Swedish Research Council issue a call for grants to research centres for women’s health and diseases

There are a number of knowledge gaps relating to women’s health and diseases. To fill these, Forte and the Swedish Research Council are now issuing a joint call for research proposals. The deadline for applications is 2 September.

The Government’s Research and Innovation Bill for 2024 tasked Forte and the Swedish Research Council to design an initiative for women’s health and diseases. For this reason, Forte and the Swedish Research Council are now issuing a call for grants to research centres focusing on women’s health and diseases.

A report published by the Swedish Research Council and Forte points out several knowledge gaps linked to women’s health and diseases. Areas that need to be researched include the origins, mechanisms, prevention, treatments, care, rehabilitation, as well as the causes of socio-economic inequalities in relation to women’s health and diseases.

The call covers two overarching areas:

  • Diseases and health conditions that are unique to or more common among women.
  • The health of pregnant women and equal maternity care, including aftercare.

The activities at the research centres that can be given support shall include, link together, or integrate both pre-clinical and clinical research, and healthcare science or public health science research.

Each centre can apply for a maximum of 120 million SEK. The overall budget for the initiative is 255 million SEK over six years.

Read more about the call and apply on Forte’s website External link.
