Members appointed to the Committee for Engineering Sciences
The Swedish Research Council’s board has appointed members to the Committee for Engineering Sciences for the period from 1 October 2025 to 31 December 2027. Their task is to manage new initiatives in the field of engineering sciences.
The committee will consist of eleven members. The nine members currently appointed by the board possess strong scientific expertise in engineering and natural sciences. Two members will represent engineering research conducted outside academia and will be appointed at a later stage.

The chair of the committee will be Hemin Koyi, Professor of Geodynamics and Tectonics at Uppsala University.
Strengthening the engineering sciences area until a new Scientific Council is established
In the 2024 Research and Innovation Bill, the government recommended dividing the Swedish Research Council’s Scientific Council for Natural and Engineering Sciences into two parts. This aims to better address the specific needs of each area.
Since establishing a new scientific council takes time, the Swedish Research Council has set up a Committee for Engineering Sciences during a transition period, with a mandate from 1 October 2025 to 31 December 2027. Secretary General for engineering sciences is Marika Edoff, Professor of Solid State Electronics at Uppsala University,
The committee’s main task is to manage the new initiatives in the engineering sciences field that we have been assigned in the research policy bill. The initiative for excellence clusters for groundbreaking technologies is one example. During the committee’s mandate period, the Scientific Council for Natural and Engineering Sciences will continue its activities as before. The committee and the scientific council will work closely together on shared matters.
