Three research centres focusing on women's health and diseases receive grants from Forte and the Swedish Research Council

Three research centres focusing on women's health and diseases have been awarded funding in a joint effort by Forte and the Swedish Research Council.

In the most recent research and innovation bill, Forte and the Swedish Research Council were tasked with implementing an initiative on women's health and diseases. As a result, the Swedish Research Council participated in Forte's call for research centre grants focusing on women's health and diseases.

“More research is needed on, among other things, disease mechanisms and the treatment of diseases that are unique to women. The Swedish Research Council awards annual grants for research in this field, but the resources are not sufficient to fund all the research needed to meet the need for new knowledge,” says Madeleine Durbeej-Hjalt, Secretary General for Medicine and Health at the Swedish Research Council.

Linköping, Lund and Uppsala Universities have now been granted long-term support for their respective research centres in women's health and diseases.

‘Funding research environments of high scientific quality can develop the research area. Therefore, we look forward to seeing the results of this initiative,’ says Madeleine Durbeej-Hjalt.
