Nordforsk announces grants for education systems

Nordforsk has announced a call for proposals on education systems and the challenges of the 21st century. The call is backed by the Nordic and Baltic countries. The Swedish Research Council is one of the funding bodies. The deadline for applications is 22 April 2026.

The purpose of the Call for proposals, “Nordic-Baltic education systems and 21st century challenges”, is to strengthen Nordic-Baltic position in educational research and to broaden and deepen cooperation and networks.

The background is that the Nordic and Baltic countries share a tradition of state-funded education, from early childhood to higher education. Simultaneously, the countries' school systems vary in terms of success in areas such as student achievement and equity. Comparative studies could reveal the reasons for these differences.

The call focuses on three aspects: democracy and inclusion in education, emerging and disruptive technologies such as AI, and organisation and teacher training.
The call is aimed at researchers in the field of educational science. The intention is to fund five three-year projects starting in 2027.

The Call is funded by Nordforsk in collaboration with the Swedish Research Council, the Danish Independent Research Fund, the Finnish Research Council, the Faroe Islands Research Council, the Icelandic Research Centre (Rannís), the Research Council of Norway, the Estonian Research Council and the Research Council of Lithuania.

The deadline for applications is 22 April 2026.
