Sweden joins the European Open Science Cloud

Sweden is strengthening its position in European research collaboration through a Swedish node in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

On 23 April 2026, 14 new nodes was granted approval to join the federated system of European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). One of these was the Swedish node.

EOSC is a European collaboration designed to facilitate research collaboration, the sharing of research data and access to digital assets across national borders. EOSC as a technical infrastructure is being built as a federation of independent nodes that connect resources, services and stakeholders at European level.

The Swedish Research Council is responsible for coordination and management of the Swedish node, shared functions and the core technical infrastructure. The node is being developed in collaboration with the Swedish National Data Service (SND) and SciLifeLab.

The Swedish node will create the preconditions for higher education institutions and organisations in Sweden to eventually connect their services and resources to the EOSC. The node will also contribute to better conditions for national collaboration and synergies regarding infrastructure and research support.

The process of establishing and connecting the Swedish node to the EOSC Federation will begin in January 2027 and run for two years. Both the Swedish node and the EOSC Federation are being developed using an agile approach, which means that resources will be added over time. Researchers can already log in and use the EOSC via the EU Node.
