The Swedish Research Council is a government agency and covered by the principle of public access to official documents. This means that everyone has the right to request to read official documents that are public.

Documents that are received, sent or written by the Swedish Research Council normally become official documents and you can request to read them. The requirement to issue official documents only covers official documents that are public, that is to say not covered by secrecy. Each request for a document to be issued is therefore subject to a “secrecy test”.

The Swedish Research Council does not have any specific secrecy regulation governing its activities, so the secrecy that might come into question are general secrecy regulations for information on state of health, works covered by copyright and information in personnel administration activities.

One example worth mentioning is that applications for research funding become official documents that largely contain information that is public, and must therefore be issued on request.
