The Swedish Research Council, vetenskapsradet@vr.se, telephone +46 8 546 44 00, is the personal data controller responsible for the processing of personal data within the framework of its activities. Purpose and lawfulness
The Swedish Research Council has a mandate to develop Swedish research of the highest scientific quality, and thereby contribute to the development of society. Besides funding research, the Swedish Research Council advises the Swedish Government on research-related issues and also works to create understanding of the long-term benefits of research.
As part of its mandate, the Swedish Research Council handles personal data in all its activities – everything from information about its employees to grant applicants. When the Swedish Research Council collects personal data, it makes available information about the purpose, legal grounds, processing and protection of data, and the rights of the person registered.
As a public authority, the legal grounds consist primarily of one of the following options:
- The processing is necessary in order to carry out a task in the public interest.
- The processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation.
- The processing is part of the exercise of official authority.
Processing and protection of personal data
The Swedish Research Council implements relevant and sufficient organisational and technical measures to safeguard data protection according to the applicable regulations as changed from time to time.
The data are stored or screened according to the statutory requirements imposed on the Swedish Research Council as a public authority.
The Swedish Research Council is a public organisation, which means that personal data may be subject to disclosure to third parties, for example when a request for public documents is made under Chapter 2 of the Freedom of the Press Act (Tryckfrihetsförordningen). A secrecy assessment is always made before disclosure.
Rights of the data subject
Everyone has the right to rectification of inaccurate personal data, and the right to have incomplete personal data completed. There is also a right, under certain circumstances, to have data erased or to make a complaint against the handling of your personal data. Furthermore, there is the right to make a complaint to a supervisory authority and the right at any time to withdraw a consent given.
