Public documents and secrecy

The Swedish Research Council is a government agency and covered by the principle of public access to official documents. This principle includes the right to access public documents. Here you can read about what this means.

Documents that are received by the Swedish Research Council or drawn up by the agency are, as a general rule, official documents. According to the Freedom of the Press Act, everyone has the right to access official documents that are public, which is part of the Principle of public access to official documents.

The right to access official documents only applies to public information. When someone requests access to a public document, an assessment is made as to whether the document may be disclosed. The information that may not be disclosed is mainly regulated by the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act (2009:400). Secrecy may apply to protect information about natural or legal persons’ personal or financial circumstances or to protect the public interest.

More information about public access to and secrecy for information in applications submitted to the Swedish Research Council can be found here.

Requesting access to an official document

If you wish to access an official document, you can write to registrator@vr.se. You can also submit your request by regular mail, during a visit, or by contacting the authority by telephone.

The authority's contact information can be found here

You have the right to remain anonymous and do not need to state the reasons for your request. The Swedish Research Council may only ask for your name or the purpose of your request if this is necessary to assess whether the document may be disclosed to you.

Form of disclosure

If you have the right to access a document, you can do so on site at the Swedish Research Council. You also have the right to receive a copy of the document. A copy can be sent by post or collected on site at the council. Some documents can also be disclosed in electronic form.

Fees

There is no charge for accessing documents at the Swedish Research Council's offices. If you want a copy of a public document, there may be a fee. The first 9 pages are free of charge, 10 pages cost 50 Swedish kronor and each additional page after that costs 2 Swedish kronor. Any costs for sending the copies will be added.
