Statistics 2023
The Swedish Research Council has in total prepared 5684 applications during 2023. Of these, 1052 applications have been granted more than 5 billion SEK.
New division of research subjects
Note! In the presentation of the statistics, we have made some changes compared with previous years. One of these is that we are now using Statistics Sweden’s standard for Swedish division of research subjects when we report success rates and grant amounts. The statistics are presented by research subject areas and correspond to the first Statistics Sweden code the applicant has chosen for their application.
The previous division of application into subject areas did not strictly follow the Statistics Sweden standard, which made it difficult to compare our data with data from other funding bodies, for example.
Free research
The largest part of the funding are within free research, which means grants that are not limited to a particular area.
One of the Swedish Research Council´s goals for achieving gender equality within our area of activities is to have the same approval rate and the same average grant amount for women and for men.
Please note that grants for research infrastructure are not reported on this page.
