European Commission announces rapid funding for research into new variants of coronavirus

More knowledge about new varieties of coronavirus is urgently needed. The European Commission is therefore mobilising €123 million from Horizon Europe for four calls focusing on COVID-19 and new variants of the coronavirus. The last application date for all calls is 6 May 2021.

The initiative is the first of its kind under the new research and innovation program Horizon Europe. It contributes to the European Commission's overall actions to prevent, mitigate and respond to the impacts of coronavirus variants, in line with the new European defence preparedness plan HERA Incubator.
